Project management does not have to be complicated. In fact, it is fairly simple if the methodology is comprehensive.

A project is usually a one-time activity with a well-defined set of desired end results. It can be divided into phases and further into sub-tasks.

A project is complex in that the sub-tasks require careful coordination and control including timing, precedence, cost and performance. Often these must be coordinated with other projects.

RPE's Approach
RPE takes on the traditional leadership role. We use proprietary methodology based on the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) tailored specifically to retail systems implementation. This methodology has already been tested, tried and is successful.

Central to this process is the efficient use of limited resources, striking balance and achieving a unified and coordinated effort with software vendors, internal resources and other external resources.

RPE provides clients with the ultimate authority and control on the project, especially scope changes. We have a time-tested and successful track record at keeping timelines in tact and managing tight budgets according to plan.

Key elements of project management include:

  • Development of a master plan and sub-plans as necessary.
  • Dissection of tasks into a workable structure.
  • Connection to both a timeline and limited resources.
  • Relationship of interdependencies.
  • Understanding the uniqueness of the project.
  • Definition of project milestones, tangible deliverables and metrics.
  • Regular status reporting and communication throughout the organization.
  • Appropriate preparation through issues management, training, education, support and documentation.
  • Leadership and motivation.
  • Realistic assessment of readiness.
  • Appropriate levels of control throughout the duration of the project.
